Stansbury Park, Real Nostalgia !!!
I matured before Stansbury Park did (or at least I got older) .
Let me explain, I'm from an old Real Estate family, and the dream of building a golfing community at the entrance of Tooele Valley was talked about at my house back in the days when a Stansbury golf coarse lot was $5,000, Millpond Condominiums were selling for $27,000 and most Utahns thought that the mosquito was the national bird of Stansbury Park.
The dreamers were all part of a young company called Terra-Corp.(they didn't get much older). Terra-Corp was successful in Southern Utah with a development called Bloomington, and saw no reason why that concept would not be as successful as a bedroom community just 26 miles from Salt Lake City.
The problem was,(in those days) there was a lot of undeveloped land between Salt Lake and the tip of the Oquirrh Mtns. With no freeway, no shopping and the nearest schools 9 miles away, Stansbury Park seemed like another planet. In California in the early 80s people would commute 35 minutes to work. Most Utahns would not.
The company hired the best salespeople, folks that had breathed life into that desert project in St. George and later would sell literally thousands of Utah Homes and Condominiums. These people became huge in the Home Building Industry, names like Ivory, Adams, Flore. But not in Stansbury Park. A young Salt Lake Architect was commissioned by the name of Ron Moland (I think it was spelled that way) to design and build a line of Homes unique to the project. Fun houses, with lots of wood , and lofts and built in saunas. Sort of like "salting the mine". Still very few came to embrace the dream.
Terra-Corp didn't last, they lost the vision and then the land.
Through the years a series of fine Land developers and home builders have kept the dream alive. Leucadia, Watt Homes, Fieldstone, John Lang Homes, Liberty Homes and most recently Richmond America have all made contributions that brought substance to the dream.
Finally, the time is NOW !! The freeway is complete, the golf coarse mature, schools have been built, and hundreds of homes have been sold. Stansbury Park is now what it was always supposed to be; a great place to raise a family away from the hustle and bustle of Salt Lake City. The dream is back, and you can be a part of it.
