Please stay out of Grantsville, or Erda, Tooele or Lake Point, if you are a city slicker from any where. Don't buy a home here.
We've got some great Horse property out here in Tooele County, but PLEASE stay home if you're like that city slicker from Highland/Alpine.
The article in the Saturday Salt Lake Tribune, about an accountant, (the city slicker) that was suing his neighbor, a Utah rancher for dumping manure near his back yard, (and piling his hay so that it blocked the view) reminded us that there are some people you just don't want in your neighborhood. Some people that just dont fit. People we would rather not sell a house to.
I'm not going to get into the merits of the actual case, since this was not the neighbors FIRST RODEO as they say. He and his wife have been in over 30 lawsuits since the 1990s. (something smells for sure and it's not horse manure).
The rancher won the lawsuit, but not before the attorneys bill reached $70,000. (and that ain't hay).Notice I haven't mentioned the plaintiffs name ( out of fear you think?)
Todd Bingham from the Farm Bureau said that "court costs are so high that even the threat of a lawsuit could be enough to force someone to sell off their land". Ergo the bill by Utah lawmakers.
"People move to rural settings because they want the lifestyle, but the first thing they try to do is change the agricultural operations to make things more convenient for themselves".
So the lesson is, we have the lifestyle in Grantsville, Erda, Lake Point and Tooele, but if you want to change it, please STAY HOME.
