Easter in Tooele County!
As you must know by now, Berna and I are very active in the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce.
Berna has served as the Chair of the Chamber Easter Egg Hunt for the past 4 years and each year it gets bigger and better.
This year was more stressful than the others.
The economy has made getting the donations, both of time and money more difficult. It has also gotten so big, that physically filling the eggs with candy has been a chore.
Finally, there was a mis-communication on a candy order that caused big strife. Thanks to JoLene Thurgood at the Tooele Macey's for making good on it! ( next time you shop at macey's here in Tooele, pick up something extra to make up for her loss).
Then, 36 hrs before the hunt was to happen, we received 7 inches of snow, making the fields unusable! But, Berna and the staff and volunteers kept at it, and it went great, and several thousand Tooele County little people had a ball.
Not true of all the parents, but let's talk about positives!
The reason I bring this whole thing up is to set the stage for a wonderful Easter moment that happened at the conclusion.
It involves a couple of Berna's clients.
The Firestone's, who bought and sold with us a few months ago, came up to say thanks to Berna at the prize table. One of the kids even gave her a hug, (which she loved) !
As she was talking to them, another of her clients came up with his 5 kids, and mentioned to her that they'd arrived late, and his children had missed out. As Berna reached behind the table to come up with a couple of leftover bags of candy, Brooke Firestone reached into her own youngsters bags and gave several treats to each of the children that had missed out. Her own kids didn't bat an eye, but were thrilled to give.
One of the kids that received some goodies, and suffers from mild autism, kept asking how the nice woman knew to give him a yellow egg, his favorite color!
After watching parents fighting over candy and eggs and prizes for their kids, and complaining that their kids didn't get enough stuff, it was wonderful to see some parents that still get it.
Their kids get it too, and so will their kids!
Thanks to the Firestones for reminding us what Easter is about.
I love Easter in Tooele County!
