If you're involved in Real Estate, you're involved in politics!
I read a post on Active Rain yesterday where the author said that there was no place in Real Estate for political discussion.
I admit his context was in regards to talking to clients, but it still got me thinking.
This morning, the lead story in the paper was about our Governor taking campaign contributions in exchange for awarding State contracts or certain tax credits for certain business. The allegations were leveled by a candidate that is getting spanked in the polls, and is having trouble crafting a message. His "evidence" is weak/non-existent, and is a mix-match of items taken out of context.
This candidate has a tough job ahead, as Utah is generally recognized as the best managed State in the nation. We've kept our AAA bond rating through the economic downturn.
The Guv's managed to balance the budget (constitutionally required) without raising our taxes.
Every major business and economic publication recognizes Utah as one of the most business friendly States there is, and the best positioned to recover first.
The challenger has maintained that he is against large corporate contributions, except he says he'll take them until he wins, then work to change things. So why am I sharing all this drivel with you? Simple.
Our Governor is a Realtor. He's a small business man. He's had to make a payroll. Yes, the State Association has supported him, and I hope will continue to do so.
What I am getting sick of is the seemingly endless parade of politicians who want to get elected so badly that they are willing to manufacture negative stories in order to impress the rest of the world of their integrity. Anyone that works that hard to "serve" the public, is not the type of public servant I want.
What I want is a business friendly, honest, hard working, strategic thinking...you get it.
What I don't want is the uninformed, especially our own members, to buy into this type of garbage simply because we don't always take the time to be informed, no matter what State you live in!
